Since 1951, NJAMHAA has been a recognized leader in advocacy and achievement for the community mental health and addiction treatment system in New Jersey. NJAMHAA represents 170 community agencies that provide mental health care, addiction treatment and support services. These organizations employ 90,000 professionals throughout New Jersey who collectively treat the vast majority of the state's behavioral healthcare market.
NJAMHAA is constantly advocating for the interests of your organization and lobbying to garner support from state legislators and policymakers, as well as our U.S. Congressional delegates. We monitor all current state and federal legislation, funding proposals and other policies that impact on our members and convey our positions to the appropriate decision makers. Through our visibility and strong presence, we ensure that your organization's concerns are expressed and that your organization's interests are represented.
To ensure maximum effectiveness of our advocacy, NJAMHAA works closely with members through more than 30 Board Committees and Practice Groups. During these groups’ meetings, providers share their experiences and expertise. Through this invaluable input, they fully illustrate how state and federal issues affect their organizations and their abilities to provide services to children and adults in need, and they contribute to developing strategies for high-impact advocacy communications.
Examples of our Board Committees are Addictions, Children’s, Co-Occurring Disorders and Hospital-Based. Members of these and other committees operate a variety of programs within these general areas. Each practice group consists of frontline providers in a specific type of program, such as residential, intensive outpatient and youth case management.
In addition, NJAMHAA facilitates four councils – Educational, Information Technology, Integrated Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Advisory– to expand our network of organizations that have a vested interest in New Jersey’s behavioral health community, and offer valuable, cost-effective products and services to our provider members.
As NJAMHAA celebrated it's 60th anniversary in 2011, a commemorative report was created that included a timeline of not only NJAMHAA achievements, but also achievements in the field and advancement of behavioral health needs.
