House Republicans Propose Bill without ACA Extensions

December 16, 2025

In the wake of the Senate’s shooting down of two separate healthcare bills as the subsidies granted by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are set to expire, Republicans in the House have introduced a bill of their own that is scheduled to be voted on at some point this week.

In place of an extension of ACA subsidies that brought down the price of healthcare premiums for those who purchased plans in the Marketplace, this proposal includes association health plans and abortion restrictions; and calls for improved transparency among pharmacy benefit managers and funding to reduce cost-sharing.

“Earlier this year, Democrats had a chance to help make life more affordable by supporting the Working Families Tax Cuts legislation. Instead, they voted to raise taxes, protect waste and fraud, and continue providing free health care to illegal immigrants. Democrats’ ‘affordability’ charade has gone on long enough,” Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) said in a statement.

“Republicans are offering clear, responsible alternatives that will lower premium costs and increase access and health care options for all Americans. The Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act will actually deliver affordable health care – and we look forward to advancing it through the House,” Speaker Johnson added.
